My comments in this thread have been neutral - in part because I'm not totally sure how I feel about this whole thing.
On one hand, what attracted me to North Creek is the fact that it has SO many outdoor/adventure options (nordic, bc, alpine, whitewater, mtb, wilderness) and almost no real typical ski resort development. And the people are the most down to earth, real people I've had the chance to know.
On the other side, those same people have always had their business district isolated from the mountain, and were getting very little benefit from the $10 hamburgers being sold up there. The mountain does provide jobs, but the amount of money being spent seemed like a lot compared to what town was getting out of it.
One thing I'm definitely concerned about is skier traffic. That development will add much more parking and lift capacity then terrain. One of Gore's real features is a distinct lack of crowds or lines when operating at capacity of parking, lifts and terrain.
FWIW, I think the improvements ORDA has made over the past 20 years, have been primarily good. Pipeline from the River, more glades and Topridge. When new Gondi and Topridge were installed I don't think the average skier understood how it would transform the mountain. Really it integrates what used to be two separate ski areas.
And from ORDA's point of view - developers with this vision for North Creek don't come along every day.
As far as glades go...it's true that a lot of people used the area now being developed. I can see how they might be disappointed. But it seems to me every lift creates its own glades. And I think the new quad is going to engender more daylong, one-lift ride adventures that end at a car. (Hey Sharon - WooHoo!)
The impact of the real estate itself, on the feel of the mountain....both from it's physical presence and the it's effect on the feel of the town...that scares me most. One thing is for sure, if I really don't like it, my property values will probably rise so much that I could afford to sell and find another place, farther north, more to my liking.
