Base of the new quad:

Such a shame they do that to an area that was already on their trail map designated as a backcountry area. It was the best tree skiing they had.

They flash "more glades" in that video. What a joke. They destroyed a good portion of the tree skiing. For what......more of what they have already.....boring blue runs

I agree the video would be better without the marketing. But on the other hand without the marketing it would never have been made.

I hadn't seen this before (thanks hpd) - a drawing of the real estate project. Sorry I couldn't figure out how to embed it:

Oh good. Another top 2% of skiers bitchin' about a loss of a private stash in an echo chamber of all the same thinking skiers.

Forget about the intelligent expansion of a public entity (with cheaper lift passes) to RE-USE an abandoned North Creek Ski Bowl - and link it to Gore.

From a business stand point you know Chris is right. ORDA is trying to get Gore into the destination resort category and they're taking big steps toward that goal.

My comments in this thread have been neutral - in part because I'm not totally sure how I feel about this whole thing.

On one hand, what attracted me to North Creek is the fact that it has SO many outdoor/adventure options (nordic, bc, alpine, whitewater, mtb, wilderness) and almost no real typical ski resort development. And the people are the most down to earth, real people I've had the chance to know.

On the other side, those same people have always had their business district isolated from the mountain, and were getting very little benefit from the $10 hamburgers being sold up there. The mountain does provide jobs, but the amount of money being spent seemed like a lot compared to what town was getting out of it.

One thing I'm definitely concerned about is skier traffic. That development will add much more parking and lift capacity then terrain. One of Gore's real features is a distinct lack of crowds or lines when operating at capacity of parking, lifts and terrain.

FWIW, I think the improvements ORDA has made over the past 20 years, have been primarily good. Pipeline from the River, more glades and Topridge. When new Gondi and Topridge were installed I don't think the average skier understood how it would transform the mountain. Really it integrates what used to be two separate ski areas.

And from ORDA's point of view - developers with this vision for North Creek don't come along every day.

As far as glades go...it's true that a lot of people used the area now being developed. I can see how they might be disappointed. But it seems to me every lift creates its own glades. And I think the new quad is going to engender more daylong, one-lift ride adventures that end at a car. (Hey Sharon - WooHoo!)

The impact of the real estate itself, on the feel of the mountain....both from it's physical presence and the it's effect on the feel of the town...that scares me most. One thing is for sure, if I really don't like it, my property values will probably rise so much that I could afford to sell and find another place, farther north, more to my liking.

Intelligent expansion of a public entity..... Have you been thru there lately? The local business's are closing left and right. The ski shop has closed. There is no lodging in North Creek. The one Inn in the village is now closed. There are no restaurant options. There are no apre ski options. There is nothing to keep anyone there after skiing. Linking Gore to the ski bowl/town that doesn't have any ammentities makes sense? Until something moves forward on that aspect it has done nothing for the area

I think the spate of businesses going down in North Creek is somewhat coincidental. The guy who had tons of money to support the ski shop, which was marginal as a business, had lots of his money in real estate. He also owned Copperfields - the only "hotel" in town. I think he may have closed them for reasons somewhat unrelated to North Creek. I know that if they were really profitable they wouldn't be closed, but both business went on for years the way they were. The restaurant that went down, had an interesting business philosophy...basically..."we don't need local business." :!:

On the positive side there is money being spent to invest in main street. The Alpine motel, which was a scary place, has been completely redone and looks great. I think there will be an excellent restaurant in there as the new owner is they guy who owned Friends Lake Inn which has legendary food and wine. Braley and Noxon - the hardware store that has been in town for over 100 years, was bought by new owners and upgraded bigtime. There is also a new real estate office. I think the Creek will be doing ok in the next 5 years.

I took a little stroll today over in the new pod. Down Cedars to the base of the new BR Quad. They are doing a great job from what I can tell. Lots of well thought out drainage. =D>

I got pretty excited about it. Cedars has more pitch than I imagined... it's a sort of a cross between Sunway and Twister. At least it won't be a chore. Sagamore, the black, from the bottom looks very cool. Lots of pitch at the bottom. There are some rocks below the lift that look to be huckable after a dump. There is real potential over there. (Are you out there, tree master?)

Sorry no pics, still haven't replaced my camera.

if someone can post the map it into the thread I'd be grateful.

Its a Flash file. View source of the web page to identify the URL of the SWF file. Then insert it with the Flash BBCode using the button atop any posting window. Mouse over the button to see the usage format. In this case it was the following:
