Mt. Waterman and Snowcrest/Kratka Ridge

I don't ever recall seeing Waterman's Chair 1 terrain groomed. Are they going to try grooming one of those runs with the winch cat? Chair 1 is premiere mogul territory. joegm would love it.

Bump line? Why do you want to harm conditions?
We do it because we can. You don't understand because you can't.

Bumps are what Waterman used to be famous for, and the OB shuttle runs (but that took three lifts -- chair + chair + car). Go to Waterman a week after they open, ride Chair 1, and see if the experts aren't having the time of their lives in the bumps.

(Please don't force me to always use these: :D :) :o  8) :? :x :P     to tip off sarcasm or irony, witty or not.)

Your first sentence is just about dead-on, BTW. The bumps I like are of the afternoon/next-day chopped pow variety, not the proper, set-up versions.

I hope to be there Sunday when/if Mr. Tom gives the OK. Maybe you can get Mr. Bump, the mighty Snow Tiger, up there sometime.

The face of waterman has been groomed many times. Lynn would always hit 1 and 2 1/2. Later even the face itself got groomed. In 98 I remember they groomed half the face and left our line as it was.

After the face would get groomed you had to wait for it to corn up or it could be HELL.

Good luck to the Gang, I will miss being there with you all!

I'll be in Utah next week, but after that.. hope to hit up waterman on a weekday.. you guys are planning on being open weekdays, right? oh yeah, I saw a groomer being pulled on the forest hwy near Mill creek Monday mid-morning. figured it was on its way up..

p.s. is all new food at Newcomb's still going to be coming off the sysco truck? Please say no! (except the Blueberry Pie.. that stuff is great)

We would always try to groom the face (I did it myself several times) when the conditions are right. The winch cat will allow that to happen more. Eventually the ruts between the bumbs are down to dirt and need to be filled in, and grooming allows us to pack the snow to keep it longer and stay open later in the year. It will not be a nightly thing though like the rest of the mountain and the bumps will form depending on how many snowboarders there are as they tend to cut the bumps.

Hey Snowave,

No, we are not going to be open during the weekdays right now until the weekend business grows and people know we are back in business. Like I said before they got about $500K into this and funds are running short so can't afford the 30 skiers per day like Lynn did for now. Once everything is going we want to add more days as we can.

As for sysco, Gary and I are buying better quality meats from them and working on additional suppliers but like always the "management" here is frustrating. Either way his food is great! This is the third place I have been with him and the reviews are always fantastic. Since I got back here I was looking for an in for Gary and he is here now! So give it a try for yourself and then spread the word.

As for the groomers on Angeles Forest, I don't know what they were as ours have been in the Caltrans yard for months. I know AT&T has been transporting one around the mountain lately.

I believe that's to haul the Waterman customers over snow, to Mountain High, in case Opening Day somehow doesn't happen in time...

Tom, I am taking that statement about opening weekends only, and due to the fact we are well through February, to mean that this season will be weekends only?

Starting to plan my trip a little bit more but dont want to even consider SoCal unless its midweek.....

The plan is for this Saturday, Sunday, and Monday and then Friday's, Saturday, and Sunday's after that. Then we will add days as demand grows.

Tom,

Is it snowing up there? From the Waterman weather site/NWS: "Partly to mostly cloudy this morning with scattered showers. Becoming mostly sunny by afternoon. Snow level 3000 feet. Local snow accumulations 1 to 3 inches."

Notice to q: Stay in the Sierra unless you have other reasons to come to L.A.

I would not worry about Waterman being overcrowded on these weekends. It's been closed since 2001, so the general population is probably not aware of its impending reopening.

If you are coming Baldy still has full coverage, though with spring conditions. If there is no more snow they will lose some coverage on chairs 1&4 by mid-March. Baldy on the weekends is not that crowded unless there is fresh snow. Snow Summit is manageable on the weekends due to the ticket limit and terrain layout, but you need to get there early to get parking at the base and avoid a tedious shuttle.

Tony, your definately the SoCal equivalent of me when I speak about Scotland haha.

At the most it is looking like 2 days I'd have to spare in my month between coming down from Tahoe(I am probably missing Mammoth out due to having been there for 2 weeks previously) and heading to Colorado via Vegas. I like seeing new places and something different and reckon SoCal may well fit the bill :D

Not sure of your logistics, but if you're in a car at Tahoe, then driving to Vegas, the route through Mammoth and Death Valley is both shorter and more worthwhile than coming here.

If you are flying down here and then going to Vegas, we'll apprise you of local conditions at the time.

Will be driving but distance is no object. I drove about 7000 miles last winter

Anyway, good luck to everyone thats worked hard getting things up and running for this weekend. I hope its a success and you never know, you might just have a Scottish visitor in March!
