Need advice on a plan for next season

nope didn't know that. I know there are pre-season deals, and Amy is going to keep me posted when those come up, but I am not sure about what kind of deals they are.
Besides the 10-pack at the Bird, Alta also has 10-packs, but the Silver Card ($99) is a better deal. However, you must be a Utah resident to buy one and you must show a UT driver's license when you use it.

A little known deal is that the Alta season pass drops to around $675 at the end of January. It shows up quietly on their web site, but it's something they don't really promote.

Snowbird also has a $300-ish spring pass that starts around the beginning of April.

All prices quoted above are 2007/08 pricing. With energy costs going postal, who knows what will happen for 08/09.

how much are (were) the 10 packs? and, as far as the Silver Card goes, will your wife lend me her driver's license? :)

Up until now Silver Cards have been fully transferrable. There are discussions currently taking place, however, to remove that flexibility.

Looks like the old 10-pack - the Alta Powder Card - is now simply an Alta Card. It appears from their site that it's only a $5/day discount.

Not likely, seeing that driving is a requirement of her job. :o

I am planning on taking a full month off next winter to spend in Utah.

My quandary is:

1) Do I go in Jan-Feb to get the most-best powder?

or

2) Do I go for the month of April?

Well, instead of starting a new thread, I decided to expand this one.

Trying to get 5 WEEKS OFF next Winter from my employer. If I decided to go that route, I need to start filling the paperwork and submitting it soon. So when do I take it?

Thinking anywhere from early January to late March. Not necessarily tied into a ski trip out West, but it would give more flexibility on where and when I do? East, West or Alps?

Opnions?

i can take up to 90 days off technically once a year and i took 6 1/2 weeks off from jan 19 through march 5th in 2007. this adventure leave doesn't really affect my 5 weeks paid off but i try to keep enough saved to cover my portion of med/dent/401k and so on. next winter i'm gonna take at least a month and i think from my wasatch experience that from mid-jan to mid feb is pretty good for snow quality. not concerned with tons of storms as i'll be touring so temps and wind are of more interest to me as fresh is always easy to find and a little goes a long way. patrick, your time frame seems good. i'm gonna keep it flexible like 07 when i hit 13 feet of storms from west virginia to maine in 46 days off, west wasn't worth the drive then. if it does it again, i'll happily stay again.

btw solitude has the best ticket deals that i know of. pm me for more info.

In Patrick's case, I would recommend splitting the 5 weeks into 2 sections. First section should be late Jan/early Feb like Sharon, somewhere West hopefully for powder. Second section to the Alps, mid-March after the Euro school holidays are done.

What I want to apply for is called "Leave with Income Averaging". I need to take a minimum of 5 weeks. Mind you, if they agree to this, I still get my 4 weeks vacation/year. So it would work out as 9 weeks off @ 89% of my salary.

Not sure it's possible, I'm exploring my options and if they going to go for it? A few colleagues have done it the past, however they all took it in the Summer time. Remember my work issues last Winter? I'm through some trial balloons and looking at my options.

I might include Spring Break in this or not? I can always take that week as vacation.

Not possible..unless I asked for 10 weeks? 8-[ (see below)

Each period must be at least five weeks long, and the sum of the two periods must not exceed 12 weeks. Where the leave is split up, the averaged income will take both periods of leave into account.

Well, to be on the safe side days off wise, I think I'll include it.

February 16-March 20, 2009. Blame Ontario for the late Spring Break.

Of course, it might not happen. Employer can: 1) not agree to this; 2) cancel the leave for operational requirements; 3) I change jobs.
