Snowboarders?.. Head Count

I grew up in Leadville, CO....skiing Cooper, Copper, A-basin and the rest of the Summit County slopes and beyond. The backcountry is endless and the season is long (year round).

Recently I've moved to Vegas for work. The lift serviced turns are somewhat limited but the backcountry is amazing, extensive, and EMPTY.

Several times a year my clients fly me back east so I've managed to do a lot of New England sliding too. Usually they have me staying at the big resorts. But crowds are not my thing so I try to find some local knowledge and slip away now and then. Last year while staying at Loon I discovered Cannon and the Franconia Notch backcountry. WOW! Smaller scale than what I'm used to but way more technical I think. I never expected to find stuff like Tram Line in the east. And the bowls and trees on Lafyette and south of Cannon (don't know names) are very demanding.

This year they're bringing me to Sunday River. The trail map looks decent but the Topos really have me more intruiged. Looks like some possibilites for long lines in tight trees (if maybe not so steep).

big sky country. BS blows, but i ride there sometimes. Bridger Bowl sucks too. they charge $500 for a pass, and all the good stuff is off the ridge, which you have to hike for. i opted to throw down for a splitboard this yr. if i have to hike for my turns, i'll do it for free. ya know? i won't ever buy another pass to BB. i got another pass to BS this winter only for 10 days.....i'm sucking it up big time.

i'm mainly a backcountry rider this year. just got a new splitboard made by never summer, so i'm anxious to get out and put that to use. i won't take it out until there's a 4' base though. it's my baby. much like CO, MT has endless options for backcountry. i know someone who has a sled and he's got like 5 buddies who all have sleds. i think i'm going to ride some of the sickest terrain i ever have this winter. time to start wearing my helmet. the guy with the sled grew up in the area, so he know's of all the spots. pretty sweet. i'll also always have someone to ride with too because i started a backcountry riding club at MSU-bozeman. the main purpose of the club is to raise the awareness of the backcountry. i'm bound to always find someone to ride. i just need to find the time. i wish i could ride 5 days a week and go to skool 2 days a week(don't we all).......reality blows.

Although I am a NH resident I call Jay Peak,Vermont my home hill now.I still love Wldcat and Cannon here in the granite state, but I ski Jay more than anywhere else by far.
((*
*))NHPH
