Beer thread?

 Mt. Baker mailed me this shirt because it was during the summer of 1998 that I prodded them to record snowfall every day even though they were only open 5 days per week. I did not ski Mt. Baker until January 2008.

They were only open 5 days a week? Hmmm.

Did they only measure on open days?! Wow.

This red ale is my favourite Aussie beer.

Red Ales are underrated. You can always get 10 IPAs, but lucky to find a Red Ale.

My favorite was Crested Butte Brewery - Red Lady Ale. However, this beer and brewery went under in the late 2000s.

That's what I was informed in summer 1998. Later they found some old boxes of ski reports going back to 1989-90. The data from those years is 85% of long term Mt. Baker average vs. 95% of average for PNW ski areas overall.

Mammoth Brewing do a very good one too. Or they did the last time I was there in 2019.
They also do an excellent brown ale.

Here's a blurry pic from my recent golf TR of an onsite craft brewery, ShawneeCraft, at a Poconos golf resort. As the name Apiarius implies, it has a light honey note.

Friday again.
At my boss’s 50th. Hip Hops Brewing. Not a bad selection.

Just a couple to be sociable. Going to Kylie’s mums for dinner. Just around the corner. She’s Fijian so there’s a big Indian influence. Curry will be on the menu.

This is a classic hazy from a local Brisbane brewer.

Glass is from Calgary…….
I really have to get back to Canada. I’m thinking March 2025.

It’s Friday.
Camping on Bribie Island for my lad’s footy break up.

I’ve probably shared this one before. From our nation’s capital.

Certainly one of Australia’s best beers.

A sunset beer overlooking the city. Then a top notch Turkish meal at a BYO restaurant. Only $2 corkage.
Do you USA people do bring your own alcohol?

I very rarely have a drink on a Sunday but I made an exception today as I had a conversation with my employer about my plan to have 8 weeks a year off from next year onward. He was quite accepting of it! Very excited.

plan to have 8 weeks a year off
Who do you think you are? A European?

We Americans demand you drop down to only two weeks a year (and then not take all of that).

Just kidding. I'm only at ~4.5 weeks off per year though. I think I get another week per year if I'm still with my current employer by end of next summer (hit 10 year anniversary). Though I do know of people older than I (different companies than mine) with only 3 weeks per year of vacation.

Rarely. Many places don't allow it, and most of those that do have high corkage fees, I'd guess average is around $30.
Agree with this statement in my experience as well.

Binging your own wine is not encouraged in most of America. In SF, you somewhat can avoid dirty looks, since there are so many wineries nearby.

But god forbid if you bring a Napa Valley wine treasure to one of America's best restaurants - French Laundry. A bucket list place for foodies. Had a friend do that last summer - brought special wine and had/suffered the below corkage fees:

Guests are welcome to bring their own wine; however, there will be a fee of $200 for each 750ml bottle with a limit of one bottle for every two guests at the table. Unfortunately, we do not allow corkage in The Board Room or the Private Dining Room.

Ouch.

Then you should have no problem traveling to the 2028, 2030, 2037 and 2038 total solar eclipses in Australia. Zoom the 2037 map; you might be able to see that one from your backyard! All 4 of them have good weather prospects and entail modest travel distances by Aussie standards, not like the crazy 5,250km Joe Cali drove from Canberra to Exmouth last April.
Does it tell me somewhere what dates these happen? I've got to admit that I haven't acquired eclipse nut status just yet. :)
Skiing will eat up quite a bit of that time off. The rest will probably include offshore fishing.

Edit. Got the dates.

Index page to the eclipse maps. It had not occurred to me that the specific maps might not have the date on display. The date appears when you mouse over the eclipse icon at the central point of the path. Eclipse travel within one's own continent can be done easily with less than a week's time commitment, as in our case in Mazatlan next April.
