Alta in April

No. Your "mindless vertical comment" strongly implies that I get more vertical at Snowbird than Alta because I'm bombing groomers or in some other way skiing less interesting terrain that we would at Alta. Which is total :bs: . Just ask BobbyD.

Do I track vertical in minute detail? Yes. Do I let the "tail wag the dog" in terms of what terrain I choose to ski? Absolutely not.

Whoa, testy! :sabre fight:

Hey, relax...I don't think he's Bobby's type.

Careful who you count in your court. I had dinner with Bobby D tonight (you were invited - it would've been fun to have this conversation in person), and he's not backing you up on this one.

Our blessed Admin. opined:

Let's get something straight here. You refer to my "opinion." My opinion, whatever it may be, has nothing to do with anything. Preference for Alta over Snowbird or vice versa because of vibe or any other intangible reason is an opinion. What we've been discussing all over this thread, on the other hand, is fact. In this argument, you've never let any facts get in the way of your opinion. You actually ignore the facts that have been presented to you over and over and over again. And I agree with Marc_C -- you do a disservice to our readers by misleading them by presenting your opinion as fact. There's nothing factual about your misstatements at all -- they're just plain wrong. I'd refer to them as "lies" instead of "misstatements," except that you actually appear to believe the crap that you've been spewing. Unquote b. admin.

Sometimes people have their tongues firmly in their cheeks for various reasons and may appear to believe what they're saying when actually they don't. One can often cajole the truth out of such a person.

Cindy, I'm sure that very few people would disagree with your arguments about the numbers king, but you're moving back into online stalker mode. How about saying these things to his face instead of over the interwebz?

Of course I only wrote the comments on the bottom. I'm curious as to why you didn't erase Admin's comments when you were quoting. Stalker is a pretty strong word. We use to use it only in regards to predators, those that were intending to physically harm us. It's a word that still strikes fear in many people, often needlessly. And relationship issues were not what I was adddressing, but rather techniques to facilitate better interpersonal communication. Sorry if that went over anyone's head.

For heaven's sake, are you really so poor at recognizing when someone is someone's girlfriend and not really their stalker? Oh, and please spare me the assessment of our relationship, we get enough interference as it is.
Why are you using this website as a forum for your relationship issues?

I have the same question. It's inappropriate, and kytels, I've discussed this with you before. Recall that I removed the ban last time after pleading from you, but I won't acquiesce a second time.

Hey Martin,

One more advise, if you're not going with your spouse, make sure she doesn't use the forum to post about some potential relationship issues. :rotfl:

BTW, Erik Guay is the only the 3rd Canadian to win a Globe since World Cup started in 1966-67.
1982 - Steve Podborski (DH)
1967 & 1968 - Nancy Greene (Overall and GS - both years)

Something that Melanie Turgeon has never won. Erik Guay is possibly the best Alpine skier from Quebec on the international stage in the last 50 years.

So you guys are really skiing buddies? :-P

Martin and I? Never meet him in my life, almost...he thought we would run into each other at Tremblant a few years ago. Only correspondance has been through ski forums. I don't know what his relationship status is, so I'm just warning him, just in case.

Back to the topic of this thread...

All I can say is that I was out in Alta for 4 days the first weekend of April last year, and we had something on the order of 40" of light fluffy powder, with refills every day. It was so deep that you had to be careful where you skied. I tried to ski through a dip in Wildcat trees that weekend, and I got stuck in snow up to my armpits! I oooched out, but it wasn't easy... Probably the best in-bounds powder skiing I have ever had since the early 70's (at Alta and Snowbird).

My buddy and I were staying at the Peruvian, and a number of people there told us that they came out there every year the same weekend and their experience was that more often or not the snow was great... lots of fresh.

Anyhow, my wife and I are going out for the last week in March, and looking forward to whatever we get. It will be good.

Yes, you, Patrick. :-s

Snowbird has more bump free chalky snow in the Upper Cirque and the frozen stuff in Mineral softens earlier than the frozen stuff at Alta. A high percentage of Alta's north facing stuff (High Boy, the Nest, Wildcat) is afflicted with moguls.

I'm heading to Alta/Snowbird in a couple of weeks. Assuming the recent weather pattern (i.e.--when I arrive, there's been several sunny days in the 40s since the last 10-12" snowfall), which of the following are LEAST likely to be bumped up:

Snowbird:
1. Great Scott and upper cirque traverse in general
2. A couple of select lines in Mineral
3. Eddie's
4. Silver Fox
5. Mark Malou and the chutes just beyond the Knucklehead
6. Broomstick and STH (but not the rest of Gad 2)
7. Mach Schnell
8. Dalton's (upper only, not lower)

Alta:
1. Devil's Castle
2. North Rustler
3. Eagle's Nest
4. Ballroom/Baldy Shoulder
5. Baldy Chutes
6. Select parts of Catherine's
7. High Rustler/Hourglass/Regal
8. Nearly ALL of Wildcat (unlike Snowbird's lower runs, Alta's aren't too low)
9. Gunsight
10. Eddie's High Nowhere

Thanks.

I agree in general with admin's choices above. Please note that Snowbird #1 is fairly direct access and #5 is a moderate gravity traverse. All of the others require hiking (presuming he means Mineral beyond Hillary Step). And despite the 30+ minute hike Main Chute can still have considerable moguls as I found in 2007.
