Big Jay

listen here joegm,

i'm not claiming anything that is not true. i deal with the jay peak saga day in and day out, it is all the drama i need and i am very honest about the situation that is going on up here.

oh by the way, i have been hiking a number of days already this season, so about that donought hole , you know what you can do with that , i'll see you at the K tommorrow, that is if you will be there?

red eye express

On my March 2003 trip East Jay had much worse conditions than my previous 2 days at Stowe and MRG. I ascribe this primarily to weather, which was 50-60 degrees the first 2 days, dropping back into the 30's when I was at Jay. However I do think Jay is likely more wind affected as an isolated peak vs. the leeward exposures of Stowe and MRG.

Jay's snowfall edge is real, as I have analyzed here before. The numbers reported in the 1980's and 1990's were consistently 15-20% above everyone else in New England. The reporting changed starting in 2000, but if you use the minimum posted on Jay's website snowfall tracker, the numbers are consistent with historical data.

So my guess is that Jay is worth the trip if there has been recent powder, but not if it hasn't snowed in a while.
