Beer thread?

We can’t buy grog in supermarkets or gas stations here in Queensland. We’ve got to go to a liquor store. So nothing new for me.

I'm not really that expert on Utah alcohol purchases. But Tony is right about going to liquor store for more high powered versions of stuff. I'm pretty easy and usually just buy regular ABV beers from random grocery stores. One local product that is kinda fun for a visit to Utah is Wasatch Brewing Polygamy Porter and it's pretty tasty. One afternoon a couple years ago a Utah buddy gave me a 22oz can of some sort of juicy IPA while we were hanging out on the slopeside Bypass Road at Snowbird. I think it was 8 ABV. One can of beer never hit me so hard/good :-)

@tseeb Utah allows breweries who brew on site to sell beer with a booze rate over 5%. This is fine but not mind blowing. The glassware will be added to my now extensive beer glass collection back home.

It would be wrong of me not to heartedly support the local brewing scene while I’m in town.
This beer is good and my wife and daughter are getting into the spirit. Merry Christmas all.

Tonight’s brew is from a mob from SLC. Kiitos is thankful in Finnish apparently. Nothing amazing but good all the same.

Nothing too special here either, though the full can graphics are above average. Gift from a neighbor for the holiday.

Plenty of good independent brewers in the Teton Valley. Picked myself up a souvenir cap too.

I made it to the Sierra foothills Sunday/Monday to help longtime family friends do more cleanup on their late parents' home at 2700' a couple of miles before Foresthill, CA. House is 3500 sq. ft. on 4.4 acres with huge shop and garage with mother-in-law unit. Due to a lawsuit it needs to go on market by end of month. We went to Foresthill for quick dinner before I left on Monday. View of moonrise from market parking lot where we had great burgers, and I bought the beer to bring home.

I've been to Knee Deep Brewing, located near Auburn, CA airport a couple of times. Their Tahoe Deep has higher IBU than I usually like. $12.99 for 4 and very tasty.

Not sure how much I should share, but friends' Dad who passed two years ago at 92 (lived alone and looked much younger) should have stopped driving sooner than he did. He had an accident, someone was injured and got insurance policy limit plus this property if he wants it. Their Mom had passed years earlier. The only good thing to come from accident is my Mom stopped driving not long after our friend's accident.

A few more pictures. From the store, you are overlooking the Middle Fork of the American River and can see snow in the Sierra. Sunset to right.

The only time I'd previously been through Foresthill was on the way to raft the Middle Fork with my son. Not long after the start, you go through Tunnel Chute rated 4+. Just after leaving I-80 on the way to Foresthill, you cross the North Fork of the American River on "the highest bridge by deck height in California, the fourth highest in the United States, and among the seventy highest in the world at 730 feet (220 m) above the river."

Some wood fences around the property had blown down and were not needed due to wire fences. We saved some of the good wood and (legally) burned the rest. This was Sunday before 2:30 PM. We saw truck taillights were getting very warm and fogging so we moved it away.

Next is Monday just before 11 AM. One of the fence panels we burned is in the back of the truck.

This was our biggest fire Monday about 3:30 PM when we burned some plywood and other wood found in 50 x 40' metal roofed parking area.

at 92 [snip] should have stopped driving sooner than he did
Unfortunate. Nearly impossible to convince some to put the keys down for a multitude of psychological reasons (loss of autonomy, not being in charge like they have been their whole adulthood, plain ego sometimes, etc...)

More of a beer report than a trip report...but not just beer photos.
First are the beers on flight from San Diego to PVR. Stewardess comped one so two beers with 20% off for using Alaska VISA cost $6.80

Sunset the first night from balcony where we've stayed eight times. On last previous trips the sun often set into clouds. Not this time. We also saw whales many mornings and a couple of evenings. That is Modelo in the large glass and very inexpensive Anejo Tequila in the shot glass. Salud!

My lovely wife, a week after our 35th anniversary. Monzon makes many good beers. This is their hazy IPA. $6 for a pint. We went there twice.

This was our favorite restaurant two years ago. The two tacos in front are tuna, one with mango. The one in back is shrimp on a jicama wrap.

Our new favorite restaurant, Tuna Azul. This is called Montadito, fresh, raw tuna on an avocado bed. Eat with crackers or two types of crispy tortillas. I had a Modelo Negra while my wife had a Michelada without Clamato. We'd hiked a mile along coast past this restaurant which is about a mile from where we stay so three miles to get here this day. We also had a Black Aquachile with raw shrimp.

This is another brewpub. We'd never been to before and saw it on hike to Mirador (Vista Pointt) above town. It's much closer to where we stay than Monzon. The liter growler cost the same as two pints and filled our (14 oz.) pint glasses better. You don't get to keep the growler.

They were out of most of their beers. Supply chain? We had Ticla, their Hazy IPA. We also got a taste of the Session and Double IPAs. Very good.

One of the highlights of the place was urinals made from beer kegs in the men's room.

Next is my most expensive beer of the trip; $9 for a 12 oz. IPA at the airport and it was not especially tasty. My wife got a 16 oz. Heineken for the same price. Least expensive beers once past security were $5. At grocery store 6-packs of Modelo were less than $6 and 2 x 710 ml were less than $4 at their 7-11 equivalent. Price are converted from what we paid in pesos. Exchange rate at most places was 18 or 19 to 1. ATM gave us 20.5.

No beers on our nonstop PVR-SFO return, but I had one of these last night and again tonight. $3.50 for 19.2 oz. at nearby high-end market.

I have a couple of more shrimp tacos with beers photos, but needed to take dog for a short walk before it got totally dark.

Two days in a row we had shrimp tacos. First were at small place across street from where we stay. I had to eat some of the shrimp before I could fold the tortilla. My wife had fish topped with a sauce that included shrimp (not small ones) that she thought was great. Owner cooked for us.

The next day for lunch we went to food stand behind supermarket that was about 3 blocks from our place. This is the only street food we've had in Puerto Vallarta. Two years ago, we ate there twice; once was before we went to airport for return flight knowing their food was better and less expensive than what we'd get at airport. Three shrimp tacos and a water $6.25 or you can BYOB. That is a cold Modelo in my Deschutes cozy.

Not a beer photo, but my lovely wife having a glass of Sauvignon Blanc with one of the more colorful sunsets behind her.

Lucia and me at El Arrayan, where she also once took a cooking class, during our 20th anniversary dinner (15 years ago) in Puerto Vallarta.
